Biography

Emmelyne Octavie is a French Guyanese multi-artist born in Cayenne on August 10th, 1986. Her art comes in the form of poetry, theater, fiction, dramatic and poetic performances.

She started writing when she was 15 years old. Her first book "Masque noir sur face blanche" was published in 2007, when she was at the age of 19. In the same year, she released a collection of short stories called "Sourire aux lèvres et larmes aux yeux" which was praised by Elie Stephenson, a huge name in Guyanese literature.

She studied literature, languages, and arts, and trained to be an actress in Paris.

Considered unclassifiable for her originality, she combines her writing with theatrical performances and slam-style performances. She combines music, and choreography with her texts. In 2016, she released her first play and then launched several musical projects based on her poetry.

She was the winner of the 11th Lindor Musique Guyanaise Award, in 2 categories: author of the year and best original artistic creation. Furthermore, she received the Inédit d'Afrique et d'Outre-mer prize for the text Mère Prison in 2020. For the text  À contre-courant, NOS LARMES, she received the SACD prize of Francophone Drama in 2022 and, in 2023, the Jean-Jacques Lerrant Prize.
