In the late 60s, the musicians from Clube da Esquina (an artistic movement from Brazil) gave us all poetic and melodic music.
These artists had a massive talent and knew how to mix the different rhythms with an extraordinary quality as great as US or UK music stars at that time. They were Beatles' fans, but in the 60s, who weren't their fans?
We knew The Beatles, but did they know us?
This question was in my head while I listened to the song that inspired the name of this reading challenge: Para Lennon e McCartney.
The message I could hear was: hey guys, you are Amazing, but if you turn your head a little to the right side, and I am not shy to say it, you will be able to see that we're the same.
How many good things have we lost just because we keep our eyes fixed on one point?
By reading those books and writing here, my goal is to look around me. I want to listen to other voices so close to me. I want to go beyond what the North-side book market display to us worldwide. This is not a matter of quality or who is better. But an invitation to listen to our voice.
This song was composed by Lô Borges, Márcio Borges, and Fernando Brant. It got famous in the voice of Milton Nascimento. You can find below a simple translation of the lyrics and the video of this song:
Because you don't know
about the Western garbage
You don't need to fear anymore
There's no need for solitude
Every day is a day to live
Because you won't see
my Western side
No need to be afraid
No need for shyness
Every day is a day to live
I'm from South America
I know, you won't know it
But now I'm a cowboy
I'm the gold, I am you
I'm from the world
I'm from Minas Gerais
Closing a cycle, Sean Lennon (son of John Lennon) said he was a big fan of Milton Nascimento. His father had kept in his collection multiple Milton's records.
Message delivered.
And it keeps spreading around:
